Most of us purchase a disability insurance policy thinking that it would be just that – insurance to protect us in a seemingly unlikely scenario, a security blanket. Most people sail through life never having to file a claim. I purchased a sizable, top-of-the-line policy with hefty premiums. My son was completely healthy up until his birth. His birth was very traumatic. He is now in Kidney Failure and will require multiple kidney transplants his whole life for survival. In 2019 my son suffered an injury at birth. In addition to this being one of the hardest moments of our lives the idea of having to relive it through a legal process was beyond frightening.
