Tour de Pier and the Values Behind Donahue & Horrow LLP
Tour de Pier has become more than an annual community event for Donahue & Horrow LLP. It reflects the values that guide the firm’s work: showing up, standing beside people during difficult moments, and supporting causes that affect families across Southern California.
This year, the Donahue & Horrow team once again joined the South Bay community at the Manhattan Beach Pier for Tour de Pier, a stationary cycling fundraiser supporting cancer research and related causes. Founding Partners Tom Donahue and Michael Horrow each sponsored a stationary bike and led teams of riders, continuing a firm tradition that dates back to the event’s start in 2013.
For Donahue & Horrow, the day is a reminder of why it’s work matters beyond the courtroom. Many people who contact the firm are facing life-changing circumstances, from serious injuries and the loss of a loved one to an insurance company’s refusal to pay benefits owed. Tour de Pier is rooted in community, care, persistence, and collective support. Those same qualities shape the way Donahue & Horrow approach their cases.
Advocacy Rooted in Preparation, Care, and Follow-Through
The values reflected at Tour de Pier also show up in the way Donahue & Horrow approaches its legal work. The firm’s cases often involve people facing uncertainty, grief, denied benefits, or difficult questions about what happened and who is responsible. In those moments, clients need more than legal knowledge. They need a team that can listen carefully, organize the facts, evaluate the evidence, and guide them through a complicated process with clarity and compassion.
That approach can be seen in the firm’s casework. In one case, Donahue & Horrow represented the family of a man who died after his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer stopped near the freeway. The case required a close review of roadway conditions, driver conduct, expert testimony, causation, and the legal standards governing responsibility. Through that work, the firm helped the family pursue accountability in a complex fatal collision case that resulted in a jury verdict before later appellate proceedings.
In another case, Donahue & Horrow represented a beneficiary after Minnesota Life denied a $150,000 accidental death benefit. The insurer argued that the loss was not covered under the policy, while the case focused on whether the insured’s fall set in motion the events that led to his death. Donahue & Horrow challenged the denial and presented evidence showing that the claim required further consideration. The court denied Minnesota Life’s motion for summary judgment, allowing the breach of contract and bad faith claims to move forward.
Both cases reflect the preparation, persistence, and care that define the firm’s advocacy. The details were different, but the responsibility was similar: understand the facts, challenge unsupported positions, and stand with clients and families when the path forward was difficult. That same commitment is why clients and referral partners continue to turn to Donahue & Horrow when a case requires careful attention and a team prepared to do the work.
Why the Team Behind the Work Matters
The values seen at Tour de Pier are the same values that shape the firm’s daily work. Donahue & Horrow’s attorneys, paralegals, and staff all play a role in helping matters move forward. Cases are built through research, communication, drafting, record review, organization, and follow-through.
That team-based approach matters to clients. It also matters to referral partners. When someone refers a client, patient, family member, or colleague to Donahue & Horrow, they are placing trust in the firm to respond with care and professionalism. The firm understands that responsibility. From the first conversation through the development of the case, the team works to make the process clear, respectful, and reassuring.
Tour de Pier offers a public view of that same culture. It shows the firm outside the office, participating together in a meaningful cause and standing with the broader community. The event is not separate from the firm’s identity. It is one expression of it.
Continuing to Show Up
Donahue & Horrow’s participation in Tour de Pier reflects a long-standing commitment to community involvement, but it also connects to the deeper purpose behind the firm’s work. The people the firm represents are often dealing with uncertainty, loss, or an uphill fight for accountability. They need legal skill, but they also need a team that understands the personal weight behind the case.
That is where the firm’s values come together. Community, preparation, compassion, and persistence are not separate ideas. They are part of the same approach.
Donahue & Horrow is grateful to participate in Tour de Pier and to continue supporting causes that matter to the community. The firm is also grateful for the clients, families, colleagues, and referral partners who continue to place their trust in its team.
